‘cene Magazine was launched in 2017 with a drive to raise the profiles of local creatives, small businesses and sub-cultures in Kent. Focused on promoting Art, Culture, Music, Food, Drink and anything else interesting and innovative. With so many talented individuals shaping the county for the rest of us to enjoy, we felt those stories needed be shared and celebrated!

‘CENE MAGAZINE // Brand Creation / Publishing / Editorial / Photography / Videography / Website

#23 Edition / Venbee

MASTHEAD + BRAND IDENTITY

'cene pronounced 'scene'.

We created this version of the word for its impact and the bold visibility and hand painted feel to represent the hands-on-approach to the content of the magazine.

This worked great for SEO, making the brand easy to locate digitally and has proven to work effectively across any medium from tiny pin-badges to large format event graphics.

For the launch edition of the magazine we intentionally used the oversized logo, so it was visible and legible from across a large rooms (e.g Coffee shops) to support our organic brand recognition.

The progression and use of the masthead over the last six years has supported our focus on sustainability. Adapting the magazines size and format to maximise paper usage.

PAGE DESIGN + LAYOUT

As each feature is individual to the creators we talk to, the design of each article is complimentary to the person, work, brand, business or industry.

The creative direction of the magazine has enabled each edition to uphold its individuality and keeps every page turn engaging.

‘cene offers the audience an immersive and relaxed reading experience. Something you’ll pick up from your coffee table to read on a Sunday morning.

Joe Bill
Co-Founder and Editor of ‘cene Magazine.

In an age when ‘print is dying’, ‘cene’s ascent from garage mag to four-time Kent Magazine of the Year is testament to the time and endeavour that has gone into creating every edition since its launch in 2017. Created to fly in the face of advertorial-led local magazines with quality content and stunning design, ‘cene always looks to be one step ahead.

The challenges that face the print industry are obvious, from paper prices to competing digital platforms, but creating a high-quality product aimed at a specific audience means the tangible tingle and real feel that you get from holding a magazine can never be replicated.

‘cene Magazine supports the creative and hospitality industries in the south east, providing them with a quality platform on which to show their skills. Our green approach with responsibly-sourced paper, vegetable based inks and minimal waste are part of a business model that focuses on mastery rather than mass.

PHOTOGRAPHY

‘cene requires regular shot-for-purpose imagery, upholding its unique visual appeal and helping the art-direction of specific printed features.

We've shot cover photos, products, fashion shoots and covered many festivals and events.

VIDEOGRAPHY

We often take the opportunity to document interviews, festivals, fashion shoots and collaborative events as we produce ‘cene to bring our printed content to life.

Check out our show-reel below which presents projects we have created and been apart of and produced the post-event films for.

NEWS + FEATURE WEBSITE

cenemagazine.co.uk was built to accompany the printed magazine and talk about interesting and informative things that happen outside of the bi-monthly print cycle.

It also appeals to a different audience that doesn’t necessarily digest features in print form, making the content accessible to a wider digital audience.

We’ve grown the website organically to 19,000+ unique monthly visitors, though SEO, print marketing and social media content.
